Senior Software Engineer

Variable, Northwestern Mutual's applied innovation team, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead technical strategy and build proofs of concept for emerging technologies, particularly AI in regulated environments. This hybrid role involves shaping architectures, influencing stakeholders across the organization, and demonstrating the feasibility and value of new technical approaches.

• Develop technical strategy for high-uncertainty technology questions
• Design reference architectures for new system classes with a focus on security and compliance
• Build coalitions and write decision documents for cross-functional alignment
• Scope and build proofs of concept using working software
• Lead evaluation and enablement of non-deterministic AI systems
• Evaluate vendor platforms and make build, buy, or partner recommendations
