Senior Software Engineer, Planner Evaluation

Waymo is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Planner Evaluation team. This role focuses on measuring and improving the quality of autonomous driving software by developing performance metrics and analyzing complex data from simulations and real-world driving logs. You will collaborate with a cross-functional team to drive data-informed decisions and enhance the Waymo Driver's capabilities.

• Develop signals to measure performance and driving qualities using statistics, math, physics, algorithms, and machine learning
• Utilize simulation and real-world driving logs to assess driving performance
• Design and implement methods to link onboard software changes to simulated outcomes
• Champion code health and best practices in a large codebase
• Analyze data and recommend improvements for metric quality and interpretability
• Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and leadership for data-driven decisions
