Research Engineer / Research Scientist, Health

OpenAI's Health team is seeking a hands-on researcher to develop frontier health capabilities and drive their impact at scale. This role involves taking ambiguous problems from inception to measurable improvement in models and products, focusing on areas like pretraining, reinforcement learning, or biomedical AI. You will own research directions, develop scalable methods, build and study RL environments, and create robust evaluations to ensure AI genuinely improves health outcomes.

• Own research direction end-to-end, from problem identification to integration
• Develop scalable methods for pretraining, RL, and post-training in health
• Build and study RL environments grounded in real health problems
• Create meaningful and trustworthy evaluations for health AI
• Advance new 0→1 capabilities in health with increasing model intelligence
• Work closely with researchers, engineers, clinicians, and product teams
