Research Engineer / Research Scientist / AI Systems Engineer, RSI

OpenAI is seeking research scientists, research engineers, or AI systems engineers to join the Recursive Self-Improvement (RSI) team. This hybrid role in San Francisco focuses on building AI systems that automate and accelerate high-quality research. You will design evaluations, improve model research capabilities, and develop systems for research workflows.

• Design evaluations for research judgment and hypothesis testing
• Automate real research workflows and improve productivity
• Improve model research capabilities through agent harnesses and synthetic data
• Build and maintain safe integrations between models and research infrastructure
• Develop research agents and experiment-orchestration systems
• Create metrics to understand RSI's effects on research productivity and safety
