Research Engineer, Lab Automation

Periodic Labs is seeking a Research Engineer to join their AI and physical sciences team in Menlo Park, CA. This role focuses on building an autonomous lab to accelerate materials discovery by translating scientific needs into automated hardware and workflows. You will bridge the gap between scientists and engineers, ensuring seamless integration of lab automation.

• Translate experimental goals into hardware and workflow requirements
• Evaluate, select, and configure lab instrumentation
• Design experimental and automation workflows for materials synthesis
• Serve as technical bridge between scientists and automation/software engineers
• Troubleshoot instrument and workflow issues
• Collaborate with AI and data scientists on data structuring
