Upstart is seeking a hands-on Machine Learning Manager to lead a small team of individual contributors. This player-coach role involves a 50/50 split between technical execution and management, focusing on developing and deploying machine learning models to improve lending decisions. You will own strategic initiatives, drive ML innovation, and translate model predictions into business impact.

What we are looking for

Lead a small team of Research Scientists, Data Scientists, or ML Engineers
Act as a player-coach with direct technical contributions and code reviews
Own strategic ML initiatives for product areas like Cash Line or Auto Lending
Drive 0->1 ML innovation and scale mature models
Translate model predictions into business impact and customer-friendly outcomes
Minimum 6 years of experience developing and deploying production ML models
